Easy To Use Memory Tips
Everyone seems to like “Top 10″ lists, and recently we were asked to list our Top 10 Tips for Memory Improvement … so in no particular order, here they are …
Improve Your Memory Tip: Get Adequate Sleep
Your brain, and your body, function best if they are well rested. In particular, you’ll find your mind is much sharper when you’ve had an adequate amount of sleep.
Granted, sometimes it’s impossible to get enough sleep with our daily responsibilities and busy lives. If that’s your predicament, make a pact with yourself … get at least 8 hours of sleep at least once a week. Our bodies and minds are quite adaptable, and they can adjust if your schedule won’t allow for 8 hours of sleep consistently. But even once a week will refresh your body and your mind, and you’ll find both will function at a higher capacity. Of course, sleeping 8 hours a night only once a week isn’t the best option, so strive for a consistent, uninterrupted 8 hours of sleep as many days as you can.
Improve Your Memory Tip: Super Brain Foods
Add a consistent serving of super brain foods to your diet. In fact, a proper diet plays a key part in memory function. Adhering to a balanced diet helps your entire body and mind function at a more optimal level.
If you’re sensing that many improve memory tips align with general health tips, you’re absolutely right! The better your overall health, the better your mind and memory will function, and continue to function for years and years.
Improve Your Memory Tip: Exercise Your Brain
Try to exercise your brain with one or more fun and easy brain games per day. One of our favorites is the song lyric game. Listen to a song and immediately afterwards, try to write down the lyrics from start to finish. Believe me, your power of focus and concentration will come into play, and after a few weeks you’ll notice you’re able to remember song lyrics at will.
Of course, this simple exercise has much more benefit than remembering song lyrics. You’ll be improving your listening skills and your ability to focus. Focus plays a large role in what you remember and what you’re unable to remember. Sharpening your focus will help you remember the more important things in your life, like faces, names, appointments, and so on.
Improve Your Memory Tip: Take Time For Learning
Do your best to try to learn at least one new thing per day, or at a minimum per week. Learning requires you to focus, concentrate, and remember important details. Learning is also a very healthy activity for your brain, especially with senior citizens who need to remain active.
Although we don’t recommend a lot of TV watching to help sharpen your brain (it actually dulls the senses), a challending show like Jeopardy will help sharpen your cognitive abilities. Contestants on Jeopardy are required to immediately recall specific pieces of information, so it’s really an exercise in memory as much as topical knowledge.
Better still, read a book on a new topic, attend a seminar, or even a how-to session at a home improvement seminar. Learning also has a positive effect on mood an disposition, so you get an added bonus in addition to all that new knowledge you’ll accumulate!

Improve Your Memory Tip:: Cardio Exercise
The more cardio exercise you partake in, the healthier your brain and memory will remain. Cardio exercise has even been shown in some studies to actually help grow new brain cells, in addition to its cardiovascular benefits.
As an added plus, strenuous cardio exercise 3-4 times a week has been proven to significantly improve your restful sleep. If you have physical challenges, even moderate physical activity (on a consistent basis) will improve your brain function.

Improve Your Memory Tip: Use Images
So much of our memory skills stems from visual images. Try this exercise … try to remember a visual image of every house you’ve lived in. Bet you can do it easily, right? Now, try to remember the address and telephone numbers of the homes. A little tougher!
The brain attaches visual images to almost everything it stores as something to remember. Since it’s probably the easiest way to instantly recall information when you need it, try to associate everything you want to remember with a corresponding image.
Improve Your Memory Tip: Remember Names With This Tip
Here’s a good way to help you remember names … When you’re introduced to someone, repeat their name and then try to use it in a sentence or two while chatting with the person. For example, let’s suppose you were just introduced to Jim. You’d say, “Nice to meet you, Jim.”
Then, during the course of your conversation, use Jim’s name once or twice in a sentence. “So Jim, how long have you worked for the company?” and maybe “What part of town do you live in, Jim?”.
Believe me, this tip works very well. Using a person’s name in conversation will help you focus and help you develop a mental image of the person, both of which will help you remember Jim’s name the next time you see him …
